Real nappies, cloth nappies, reusable nappies, terry nappies or washable nappies, call them what you like, they are the most cost-effective option for parents – they can save families hundreds of pounds and stop huge amounts of waste being sent to landfill sites.
Did you know:
- 28 million disposable nappies are thrown away each year in DEVON.
- It costs Devon tax payers £1.5 million per year to dispose of “disposable” nappies.
- Families can save £500 or more per baby by making the switch – even more if they use washable wipes too.
- Disposable nappies contain up to 200 chemicals, right next to your baby’s delicate skin.
Real nappies are the smart alternative to disposable nappies that can hang around for 500 years or more and become a real headache for generations to come.
Exeter Baby Activities editor, Arabella Greatorex, owned one of the longest running real nappy sellers in the UK. When Arabella returned to her home County of Devon in 2008, she was surprised to find that there were no local cloth nappy advocates in in Exeter so she quickly set about informing and helping local parents via drop in sessions at her home, business warehouse and local baby and toddler groups.
Now, after lots of hard work, real nappies are widely considered to be smart move by hundreds of local families who realise the benefits of cloth nappies:
- Money saving
- Less chemicals on your baby
- Super cute and funky
- Easy to use and wash
- Good for the environment
