Family Friendly Veggie and Vegan Eateries in Exeter Prospect

In the interests of full disclosure, I should start by saying that our family is neither veggie nor vegan.  We are low meat consumers though and we do make great efforts to ensure that our food is responsibly farmed.  As a result, we do eat a lot of veggie and vegan food, especially when we are out and it is harder to find high standards for animal welfare.

So, with that in mind, here are

The Prospect Inn

Full service pub with very welcoming staff and lots of space for kids, both inside and outside.  Perfect stop off after a walk along the Quay – offers full menu including veggie and vegan options: I’m rather partial to the Halloumi burger.  The owner are hugely supportive of local food producers and very active in the local community.

The Plant Café

Hugely popular veggie and vegan café for breakfasts, salads, soups, cakes and great coffee.  Can be crowded inside but a beautiful spot to site in the sun if you can bag one of the outdoor tables.  Food is fantastic and they have lovely staff but I have found them to be slightly bemused by children.

Rabbit Vegan Café

Fully vegan café much frequented by students but welcoming to families too.  Feels faintly greasy spoon inside and the service is efficient rather than welcoming but kids will love the decorated well (reputed to be the well formed when St Sidwell died).

No 1 Polsloe

Tiny café with small but perfectly formed menu with veggie and vegan options.  Some of the best coffee and cakes in Exeter too.  Very welcoming to families but perhaps not much space for active toddlers.
