3 Top Family Days out on the Avocet Line

Here are a few top tips for what to discover on a day out from Exeter by train:

Topsham – mooch around lovely shops and treat yourself at cafes like Route 2 or the Passage House Inn with great views over the Exe.

Lympstone – all the family will love a walk along the Exe Estuary – the Exe Explorer leaflet has lots of ideas.

Exmouth – our new favourite lunching spot is Rockfish. To work up an appetite for lunch why not try an Avocet Amble around Exmouth.

Topsham Recreation GroundText above supplied by Avocet Line but I have to add that we do LOVE this train line.  We use it all the time to get to Exmouth beach – swimming in the summer and dog walking in the winter.  We hop on the train for a walk around Topsham and the RSPB owned Bowling Marsh Green.

One of our most fondly remembered Sundays out was the Treasure Hunt Trail around Topsham. The Trails cost about £7 and are the BEST thing for looking at places from a new angle.

Another favourite is to pick up a picnic from the lovely delis in Topsham and spend an afternoon at the Recreation Grounds.  It’s one of the best parks in the area.  It has huge grassy areas to run around in, a pirate ship, zip wire, big and small obstacle course and picnic tables.  Plus an amazing view out over the estuary.
